The FREE friendly hospital transport service for cancer patients registered at Meadowbank Health Centre

Q. Do I have to pay to travel with Meadowbank Car 4U ?

No. Meadowbank Car 4U is free for all eligible users. We are funded by donations and fundraising events. If you wish to give a donation in person, please tell your driver.

Q. How much notice do I need to give?

The more notice you can give, the easier it is for us to organise drivers. Please contact your GP’s receptionist as soon as you have any appointment dates. We can sometimes provide drivers at
short notice, but we do need to know at least a day in advance.

Q. What happens if the date of my appointment is changed, or I can’t go?

If changes are made to the time or date of your appointment you should let us know as soon as possible. If this is more than a day in advance of your appointment, please contact your doctor’s surgery so they can pass the message on to us. If this is less than a day in advance of your appointment, please contact your driver directly using the mobile phone number provided.

Q. Can I take someone with me?

Yes, you can take a relative or friend with you, there is no charge for them either. When our coordinator contacts you to arrange your transport, let them know that you intend to take a friend or relative so that they can ensure there is space for them in the car.

Q. How does it work?

Meadowbank Car 4U provides a free, friendly hospital transport service for cancer patients registered at Meadowbank Health Centre. How it works: If you have cancer and are registered at Meadowbank Health Centre you can use our service to go to and from hospital appointments and treatment sessions. The service is free. You will be collected from your home, taken to hospital and brought home. If you wish you can take a friend or relative with you. When you get your appointment contact your doctor’s reception and leave your name and phone number. The receptionist will pass your contact details to the coordinator. The coordinator will phone you and find out the appointment times and any special requirements you may have. Next the coordinator will allocate a driver for each journey, and will advise you of the driver’s name and phone number. (This should only be used in the event of a cancellation.) Shortly before the appointment time the driver will contact you and arrange with you a pick-up time. This means that you will know exactly who is taking you to hospital and at what time you should be ready. On the day the driver will wait at the hospital and when the appointment is over will take you straight home. Very occasionally, you may be at the hospital for a full day. In that event, one driver may take you in to hospital and another bring you home. Everyone involved at Meadowbank Car 4U is a volunteer. Find out how you can help.
